1 is pure classic but fuck that shit. 2 is when the characters have been developed and more established and the plots are more witty and better laid out. I’ve always switched between 8 and 9 so idc to comment on that.
reasons i like this episode are, and limited to only: it’s inclusion of Hemingway, both endearingly and satirical, and the conclusion of the character development of Nick - which accurately portrayed a heck load of men i have encountered. which made me laugh.
like i said, always and forever will love the earlier seasons.
Season 1’s high points Life on the Fast Lane/Bart the General/Krusty Gets Busted are just as good as any episodes of the classic era. Sure there are some missteps(Homer’s Night Out/The Call Of the Simpsons I’m looking at you) but as a whole it is still a great season. Much better than the shit fest that is season 9. Seriously find it hard to take anyone seriously who like season 9 some of the worst episodes of the show are in it and it truly feels like the first non Simpsons season where the simple dialogue became rigid and unrealistic and the characters became stretched out bastardizations of their formers selves. Sure it can give you quick laugh but it is in the 2 and a half men/Home Improvement way. Tired sittcommy tropes. Season 2 is the king of all seasons. Question that and I’ll destroy you.
As for this particular episode where is the satire? Endearing fucking please. Days of Our Lives episodes do a better job at making their characters matter. Also just because you find it personally relatable doesn’t mean it’s a good Simpsons moment

What? The episode was utter trash. The Lisa plot was completely underdeveloped along with Marge’s sudden turn in the episode as well. Completely awkward and stupid. Nick’s character isn’t a bad one but tbh episodes where characters come in like that for an episode instead of being an already established member of the Springfiled universe never work out well because you have to spend a bit of time developing the character (the 4 act structure the show uses now makes this especially hard). In this episode they just skipped that and made a half assed Marge and Lisa episode. Just because you like Hemmingway doesn’t make this episode even close to good. But I could tell you didn’t know shit because you said the classic era was 2-9 pshhhh. 1-8 or you’re a fucking idiot.
